My platform is built on six core pillars designed to improve the student experience. From academic rigor to campus safety, these policies represent a commitment to a better, more inclusive Carolina for every student!
These policies are about finding the right balance between academic rigor and a better student experience. By improving grading, scheduling, and course planning, we can ease unnecessary stress on students, professors, and administrators alike. These aren’t changes for the sake of change, they’re practical steps to make Carolina a place where students can thrive, faculty want to teach, and graduates are set up for success beyond UNC. Clearer grading helps students understand how to improve, wellness days put mental health back in students’ hands, and fair grading standards protect equity across departments. Grade replacement ensures GPAs reflect real learning, while a Pass/Fail option for General Education courses encourages students to explore their interests without fear of a single grade holding them back. The goal of our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion policy is simple: to make sure every student feels respected, valued, and supported at Carolina. DEI is not about favoritism..it’s about fairness, representation, and building a stronger campus community. By recognizing and celebrating the racial, cultural, and lived experiences that shape our student body, this policy works to ensure that no one feels invisible or excluded. When we honor our differences, we create a Carolina where belonging is real and every student has the chance to thrive. (read more on page 5)
Civic engagement is central to true representation and a responsibility of a public university like Carolina. Yet too many students especially first-years, out-of-county students, and those from rural North Carolina face barriers that make participating in our democracy harder than it should be. Confusing registration rules, housing instability, and weak connections to local governments all contribute to low turnout. This initiative focuses on breaking down those barriers, expanding access, and strengthening the relationship between UNC, Chapel Hill, and the rural communities many students call home because student voices deserve to be heard. This Accessibility Policy is about making sure every UNC student can fully and safely participate in campus life. It tackles long-standing barriers by strengthening disability access, improving emergency preparedness, and holding the university accountable to ADA standards. The plan includes faster responses to access issues, clearer communication about repairs and closures, and better tools to help students navigate campus. It also expands mobility education, advances menstrual equity by increasing free product access, and pushes for multilingual emergency alerts so critical information reaches everyone. By centering health, dignity, and inclusion, this policy works toward a Carolina that truly works for all students. (read more on pages 8 and 9)
This Sustainability Policy puts students, justice, and accountability at the center of UNC’s environmental future. It recognizes that climate change and environmental harm don’t affect everyone equally and that sustainability must include accessibility and equity to be effective. The proposal calls for cutting ties with the fossil fuel industry, expanding composting and food-waste systems, and ensuring all green initiatives are accessible to every student. It also pushes for a transparent, student-inclusive transition to clean energy, especially given UNC’s continued reliance on fossil fuels near historically marginalized communities. Through education, community partnership, and real accountability, this policy works toward a more just and sustainable Carolina, one that protects both people and the planet. (read more on page 7)
The Ahmad Administration is committed to putting student health and wellness first. This platform prioritizes mental health, reproductive access, healthcare awareness, student voice, and campus safety — because student well-being should never be an afterthought. The plan expands mental health support for transfer students, increases access to free and low-cost contraceptives across campus, and makes health resources easier to find through visible, student-friendly pop-up events. It also strengthens feedback channels so student needs directly shape campus health services, and expands self-defense and empowerment workshops to build confidence and safety across UNC. This is about creating a Carolina where students feel supported, informed, and safe. (read more on pages 10 and 11)
My name is Khizra Ahmad and I’m honored to run to serve as your next Student Body President. As a junior math major, dedicated melanoma researcher, and student leader, the past two and a half years at Carolina have transformed how I see leadership. My name is Sydney Phillips, and I'm a junior double-majoring in Ad/PR and Global Studies with a minor in Chinese. I chose to support Khizra because I love how her campaign places an emphasis on supporting students of color and minorities at UNC. Diversity of ally types is incredibly important, and I believe that her policies will help uplift and strengthen these diverse communities.
